Baiyer Economy Grows with Coffee Price Increase

By PEARSON KOLO

ECONOMIC activities are booming in Baiyer River in the Western Highlands
Province (WHP) with the maintenance and upgrading of its road coupled with
sudden increase in coffee price. The Baiyer people took advantage of the
increase in coffee prices and carefully tending to their coffee trees. The
coffee price in Baiyer is now K7.50 per kilo.
The WHP government has helped the people by upgrading and maintaining the
deteriorating roads begining late last year. This has enabled the people of
Baiyer and Lumusa to easily commute to Mt Hagen. WHP Governor Tom Olga praised
the people of Baiyer and Lumusa and said it is good that the people are now
actively participating in economic activities. The road will be upgraded and
sealed from Kumdi to the Baiyer Patrol Post. The other roads including the
Baiyer to Lumusa Road will be upgraded by the Western Highlands Provincial
Government. "This is what we want in every individual district in the province,"
Governor Olga said. "The people must get themselves involved in economic
activities, businesses and generate income for themselves and their families and
improve their living standards."

Note:  This is the kind determined service we need in Koare and Pangia/Ialibu
electorate.  We have our land, we have our people, we have our hands to work our
lands, we can make it work but we need government support and someone with
vision and proper direction.  Where and how can we get this?  Which government
do we seek help from?  Who is capable of doing this?  If the above development
can take place in nearby Western Highlands Province, why not SHP and Koare?  The
current MP, Mr. Peter O'Neil does not care about improving the local people's
lives through agriculture and improved road conditions. He has enough riches so
why will he care about the people.  This is truly sad.  Let's ponder on this.
